At M&Y, we care about helping the next generation in discovering their potential. When it comes to picking what you want to do for the rest of your life, it can be difficult for young people. When it comes to entering the world of work, how do you truly know what’s right for you, if you haven’t had any experience?
That’s why recently, we’ve welcomed a number of young people into the M&Y team for work experience! Including Joshua.
Joshua recently worked with the team, heading out on site and gaining valuable experience in the day-to-day working environment, to give him some exposure to the realities of working life.
Joshua’s valuable work experience
Speaking to Joshua, we asked him about his experiences, what his expectations were and the realities of working life…
“During my work placement, I was surprised by the variety of jobs needed to develop a site. The wide variety of tasks on a work site gave me the chance to develop my ability to us tools, improved my social skills and gave me an overall better understanding of the job.”
Joshua’s experience opened his eyes to the the wide variety of roles that are available to him, saying:
“My experience taught me that there are many options I can choose from in engineering, rather than limiting myself to one job.”
Finally, we couldn’t help but ask him a more serious question. If M&Y was a type of dessert, what would it be, and why?
Joshua answered: “A cookie. A cookie can be either hard or soft and you never know how hard your day on site will be.”
