In early September, M&Y hosted its much anticipated ‘More than a Match’ charity football tournament, bringing together professionals from across the sector for a day of friendly competition, all with one shared goal, raising money for charity
Football for great causes
The tournament brought together 20 teams, including 3 teams made up of M&Y staff, to take to the pitch in support of two fantastic charities:
- Petrus Community, a Rochdale-based chair with the aim of ending homelessness
- Centre-56, a Liverpool-based domestic abuse nursery, supporting families who have faced abuse or are in crisis.
Thanks to all the amazing people involved in the tournament, we managed to raise a whopping £6,654.05 for our two charities! This total will be split evenly, funding two charities doing vital work in our communities.
The results are in!
Each team had a fantastic run out, with a day of passing, running, shooting and goals, goals, goals. However, there can only be one winner… and this year’s the trophy went home with the team at ET Hire Ltd and Site Access Services, after a hard-fought victory, beating runners-up, Centre 56 in the final.
We also gave out some more awards on the day, which included:
Player of the tournament: The star player of this year’s tournament was awarded to Nathan from Petrus Community, who was unstoppable on the day. A superstar on the day, and a joy to watch!
Goal of the tournament: The best goal of the day was awarded to Callum from Petrus, for his unbelievable strike for Centre 56 (yes, he switched sides!). Cool, calm and collected. It was a strike to behold for all.
Celebration of the tournament: We couldn’t resist giving out a celebration award, with this year’s celebration coming from off the pitch, as Sonia Denham of Petrus and Alex Oriel from the Marketing team broke out into a dance routine!
A matchday to remember
The day was a success in many ways. Not only in terms of fundraising, but in bringing people together to raise awareness, while having a great time in doing so.
So… who’s playing next year?
