M&Y transform Liverpool Women’s Hospital Family flat, supporting families with babies in neonatal intensive care

M&Y Maintenance and Construction has dedicated it’s time to supporting Liverpool Women’s Hospital by transforming of its vital family flats, which offer parents with babies in neonatal intensive care with free accommodation nearby to the hospital.

These flats are available to parents during a difficult time, helping them to be near their newborns without any financial strains of staying in a hotel, travelling or taking time off work.

M&Y have refurbished this flat into a warm, modern space and has a brand-new kitchen, allowing for a more comfortable place to stay for people going through a difficult experience.

The project was delivered in collaboration with Paula Roas Kitchens, who designed and supplied the new kitchen for the flat, along with support from MJS Joinery, M&Y Electrical, CP Hood, and RJM Tiling, who all donated their time, support and materials to this project.

Liverpool Women’s Hospital now supports between 60 and 80 families per year by providing free accommodation, helping them stay close to their babies.

On the opening day, Andrew Teasey, Customer Care Manager at M&Y Maintenance and Construction, said

“It was a fantastic opportunity to manage a project within the community. The opening day made me feel proud of our achievement and to be working for M&Y. It was a great feeling to give something back that was very much needed and will be used for years to come.”

The flat was already in use by a family when the ribbon was cut, a powerful reminder of how urgent and meaningful this work is. Later that day, the team welcomed Paula Brennan, whose heartfelt fundraising brought warmth and personality to each flat, from soft furnishings to homely touches that make all the difference to parents staying there.

Kate Davis, Head of Fundraising at Liverpool Women’s Charity, said:

“When your baby is in hospital, the last thing you should worry about is where you’re going to sleep. These flats take away some of that worry.”

M&Y is proud to be part of the solution and to be contributing to the community local to our Grove Street development.
