Meadow View shortlisted for Inside Housing Award!

Inside Housing shortlisted finalist

We’re happy to share that Meadow View, our extra care scheme in Shevington Village, has been shortlisted for the Inside Housing Development Awards 2025  in the Best Healthy Homes Development – Rural/Suburban category and Best supported housing development submitted in partnership with Wigan Council.

This means a lot to us. It’s a nod to the hard work of our team and to the values we hold close, building homes that support health, independence, and community.

Extra Care housing that supports Independent Living

Commissioned by Wigan Council and completed in February 2025, Meadow View transforms a disused site into a vibrant, sustainable community asset. The £7.9 million development delivers 32 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments for residents aged 55 and over, all designed to promote independence and wellbeing.

With floor to ceiling windows, open-plan layouts, and walk-in wet rooms, each home maximises natural light, space, and accessibility. Two apartments are fully adapted for wheelchair users, and the building includes two central lifts, electronic doors, and level access throughout.

Inside Housing judges were looking for integrated care and community wellbeing

The Inside Housing judges were looking for schemes that went the extra mile, they wanted homes that genuinely help health and wellbeing. Meadow View does just that.

Meadow View has a dedicated care team based on-site, supported by 24/7 health services from Wigan Cares. This integrated model allows residents to receive tailored support without leaving their homes or community.

Communal spaces such as a lounge, library annex, and supported bathing area foster connection and comfort. Events like the recent VE Day celebration bring residents together, enriching lives and strengthening community ties.

Sustainable housing development with real Social Value

Environmental responsibility was a cornerstone of Meadow View’s design. Each apartment achieved an EPC rating of B, supported by:

  • MVHR units for clean air circulation
  • PV solar panels to reduce energy costs
  • Ground source heating systems for low-carbon warmth
  • EV charging points in the communal car park
  • 100% waste recycling, with zero waste sent to landfill

These features contributed to £2.83 million in social value, far exceeding contractual commitments and setting a benchmark for future developments.

We worked closely with local groups including Friends of Stockley Park, Vicarage Allotments, and Crooke Village Association, enhancing accessibility and preserving heritage.

Wigan Council shared:

“The apartments are top-quality, with stunning views, and the communal spaces offer a balance of privacy and connection. Meadow View enables residents to remain in Shevington as they age, rather than relocating for care.

Its impact is far reaching, residents receive excellent support, local housing is freed up for others, and families benefit from having loved ones nearby.”

– Vicky Galligan, Councillor, Wigan Council

We’re really looking forward to celebrating at the Inside Housing Development Awards this November in London. It’s a brilliant opportunity to shine a light on the work our team and our partners at Wigan Council has put into Meadow View, and to stand alongside other organisations who are making a real difference in housing across the UK.

Best of luck to all the other finalists, we’ll see you there!
