M&Y gas engineer working on a boiler

Gas safety is a paramount concern for homeowners and residents across the North West. The significance of annual gas certifications and boiler installations cannot be overstated. M&Y Maintenance and Construction, a trusted name in the industry, have been serving the North West for years. In alignment with Gas Safety Week’s 2023 theme, which emphasizes the diversity of skills and experiences of those safeguarding UK gas, we bring you a closer look at M&Y and their dedicated Gas Supervisor, Allan Ashton, who has been a certified gas engineer for over three decades. Join us in exploring their commitment to gas safety and the steps they’ve taken to ensure the well-being of residents.

M&Y Maintenance and Construction: A Commitment to Gas Safety

M&Y Maintenance and Construction have been instrumental in providing annual gas certifications to over 12,000 properties and installing around 500 new boilers each year in the North West. Recognizing the invaluable experience of their team members, M&Y proudly acknowledges their employees, with Allan Ashton now serving as their Gas Supervisor, sharing his extensive knowledge with the rest of the team.

Going the Extra Mile: Ensuring Gas Safety Compliance

In anticipation of the warmer months earlier this year when residents were more likely to be outdoors, M&Y took proactive measures to ensure compliance with their customers. They introduced a new step in their processes, calling each resident the day before their scheduled gas service to confirm their availability or to reschedule. This not only ensured a smoother process but also provided an additional opportunity to educate residents about the importance of annual gas safety checks. Thanks to this initiative, an impressive 95% of gas servicing appointments were made within schedule this year.

Allan Ashton, Gas Supervisor at M&Y, emphasized the importance of their work, saying, “It is our job to make sure that people’s gas appliances are operating safely and efficiently. In some instances, people do not know the signs and symptoms of faulty gas appliances and carbon monoxide poisoning. Because of this, we are supporting Gas Safety Week to remind the public of the seriousness of unsafe gas appliances and how they can keep themselves and their families safe.”

Jonathan Samuel, Chief Executive Officer for Gas Safe Register, praised M&Y’s contributions, stating, “We’re delighted to have the support of M&Y Maintenance and Construction in helping to spread important gas safety messages, such as always checking the Gas Safe Register to ensure your engineer is registered and qualified for the work needed.”

Qualified and Registered Gas Engineers

Allan and his team of experienced engineers at M&Y are fully qualified and registered with Gas Safe, the UK’s official registration body. Employing mobile working technology, they provide full electronic CP12 certification, ensuring customers receive their gas certificate as soon as the inspection is complete, guaranteeing instant compliance.

Top Tips for Staying Gas Safe

To wrap up, here are some essential tips to stay gas safe in your home:

Recognize the Symptoms
Be aware of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, including headaches, nausea, breathlessness, dizziness, collapse, and loss of consciousness.

Watch for Warning Signs
Keep an eye out for warning signs that your appliance may be unsafe, such as a lazy yellow flame, error messages, unusual noises from your boiler, or sooty stains around your gas appliance.

Keep Vents Clear
Ensure vents are unblocked, as they are crucial for your appliance’s safe and efficient operation.

Act Quickly
If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, call the free 24-hour national gas emergency number immediately at 0800 111 999.

Leave It to the Professionals
Never attempt to work on a gas appliance yourself. Always seek the help of a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.

Check Credentials
When having your annual safety check, only employ a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Always ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, and check the back of the card to verify the appliances they are qualified to work on.

In conclusion, M&Y Maintenance and Construction’s unwavering commitment to gas safety, coupled with their proactive measures and experienced team, ensure that residents across the North West can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a safe and well-maintained gas system.
