Aftercare at M&Y – Meadow View Court

In the construction sector, aftercare can sometimes be treated as an afterthought. The build is complete, there may be a few snags, but they are not usually emergency jobs.

When M&Y completed Meadow View Court for Wigan Council, we handed over more than a new building. Also known as the Shevington Extra Care Scheme, the development comprises 32 apartments that enable residents to live independently while accessing additional care and support.

Handover may mark the end of construction, but it does not end our responsibility. Our Customer Care Manager, Andy Teasey, recently returned to the scheme to catch up with residents and explain what good aftercare looks like in practice.

Across schemes that exited their defects period during the last 12 months, M&Y recorded an average of just two defects per home. For context, recent industry data shows that fewer than one third of new homes are handed over with five or fewer reported defects.

While industry reporting often focuses on average resolution times, M&Y has achieved 100% attendance within agreed client target timescales for more than 12 consecutive months.

Clients rated M&Y’s quality and aftercare performance 4.5 out of 5 in our 2026 survey. This is equivalent to 90%, compared with a national survey in which 88% of new-build customers were satisfied with the service received after moving in.

But don’t take it from us, hear from Andy, Scheme Manager, Michael Johnson at Wigan Council’s Meadow View court and of course, resident and top bingo winner; Eric:

“I’ve had nothing but a great experience with M&Y right from day one. They’ve been very involved and have spent a lot of time and care getting to know the residents. From my point of view as a landlord, they’ve been absolutely brilliant. If any problems or questions arose, they would come straight down and get everything sorted.”

Michael Johnson, Scheme Manager at Meadow View Court

“Having Andy and the team on board has been super positive. Nothing was too much trouble for Andy and the team. What stands out most is Andy’s understanding of people’s needs, how quick and responsive he was to repairs, and that nothing was too much trouble.”

Andrea Lyon, Registered Manager, Wigan Cares

“Some good friendships were made with residents and staff.” Andy Teasey, Aftercare Manager, M&Y Maintenance and Construction
