Operative standing outside van

10th of October, marks an important day in our calendar as World Mental Health Day.

While construction jobs are known for their physical demands, the emotional toll can be ignored. Mates in Minda charity dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, shared a factsheet showing:

  • In 2022/23 stress, anxiety and depression accounted for 49 per cent of work-related ill-health, resulting in 17.1 million working days lost (HSE).
  • The Chartered Institute of Building found that 26 per cent of construction industry professionals thought about taking their own lives in 2019 and 56 per cent work for organisations with no mental health policies

M&Y are always working to promote mental health support within the industry and in our teams. Being committed to ensuring that all employees and their families have access to necessary support, free from judgment or fear of job loss.

To support our efforts we have a team of trained Mental Health First Aiders at M&Y who volunteer their time to be there for anybody who may need a listening ear and signposting to support that can help you when you are struggling.

Rachel Moss, Mental Health First Aider and Health & Safety Officer at M&Y shared, Mental Health is all year round, we encourage anyone facing mental health challenges to reach out for help and encourage colleagues to speak openly with each other about how they are feeling. At M&Y, we are committed to creating a workplace that prioritises safety, support, and openness.”
