There’s never a boring day for our Degree Apprentice Site Supervisor Erin!

Erin is our Degree Apprentice Site Supervisor at M&Y, we sat down with Erin to chat with him about what she’s been getting up to as part of her role in the team…

“Before I joined M&Y, I was working for my brother and attending the City of Liverpool College three times a week, working towards a Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Construction in the Built Environment.”

“I’d known for a while that I wanted to take the apprenticeship route into university as it is massively more beneficial than the regular university route.

“I started to apply for various degree apprentice roles, all associated with construction, property development. I looked in a few places to find the role I was looking for but when I found the M&Y opportunity, I read the description and applied straight away!”

“Working at M&Y has stood out because everyone who I have met and worked with has been so welcoming.”

“On my first day, I was in the St. Helen’s office. Everyone was very friendly and the team were approachable and always eager to answer any questions I had. I have not felt, at any point, left out. They welcomed me straight away and have helped me to integrate smoothly.”

“Coming into the industry with little experience felt like a daunting challenge at first. Before starting with M&Y, the only time I’d been on a construction site was during a week’s work experience which my college had set up.”

“The biggest thing I’ve learned that is that it’s important to work as a team on a building site. The programme will not run smoothly if everyone is not on the same page. Daily, there are many different things going on at once. So, it is important to share the load between colleagues and always ask for help if you need it!”

“My favourite part about working with M&Y is that no day is the same. There is always something new going on, something new that we must figure out on site. My days are NEVER boring or repetitive.”

The apprenticeship has helped me to embrace change. Working in a brand-new environment, with people I had never met prior to the apprenticeship, was daunting initially. But, continuing to show up and apply myself to the experience has benefited me massively and I enjoy being on site. I feel more confident in the growing knowledge that I do have as my colleagues are always available to answer any questions I may have, or to help me if I’m struggling with a task.”
