The amazing achievement by Alex Rigby, Fundraising Officer for Centre 56, saw him run 107 miles from station to station across the entire Merseyrail Network. The challenge featured support along the whole way by none other than one of our M&Y welfare vans!
Justin Toole, Fleet Manager at M&Y offered the welfare van as a support vehicle during the 27-hour ultramarathon for everyone taking part. Justin arranged some of our drivers to go out on test drives beforehand familiarising them with the route & importantly the AA; just in the case of any accidents and emergency!
Before taking off, the welfare was kitted out with water, food supplies, first-aid kids and even an eye wash station to cover any possible situation that might occur. Already equipped with a toilet and sink – the welfare van was ready to go.
On the start day of the marathon, Justin drove the welfare van down to Chester where he made sure Alex’s overnight clothes and support bike were in the van and ready to use when the time came.
Once Alex had set off, the M&Y van followed him from station to station with a camera man from Merseyrail in the front, filming the runners both on the road and at each station!
During the night, the welfare van became a source of warmth and food for everyone who needed it – proving invaluable to Alex and all of the runners as well as the cameraman and everyone else who took part.
After 27 gruelling hours, Alex Rigby finally crossed the finish line of his 107-mile ultra marathon. His monumental challenge raised over £50,000 for Centre 56. This money will make an incredible impact on the lives of vulnerable families and children.
