For a third year running, M&Y has brought together colleagues, supply chain partners and local organisations for its annual Charity Football Tournament, raising vital funds for charities that make a difference in the communities we serve.
What started as an opportunity to strengthen relationships across our supply chain has grown into a key part of our social value programme, using the power of football to bring people together while supporting important local causes.
This year was our biggest most successful tournament yet. With a record 23 teams taking part, the event raised £10,050 for Centre 56 and Petrus. The latest fundraising total means our football tournaments have now generated an incredible £20,679 for charities and community organisations across the North West in just three years.
Charities that change lives – Centre 56 and Petrus Community
Our last two tournaments supported two organisations that provide vital support for people facing challenging circumstances.
Centre 56, based in Liverpool, supports families experiencing domestic abuse and crisis situations through a range of services including information, healthcare and practical support.
Meanwhile, Petrus, based in Rochdale, works with people experiencing homelessness or housing need, providing residential and day support services that help individuals develop skills, independence and pathways towards a more stable future.
Both organisations are part of The Regenda Group.
Building connections through football
The annual tournament has evolved significantly since its launch.
The first event was organised for M&Y and partners involved in the Shevington Extra Care Scheme project, creating an opportunity to build relationships away from the workplace while raising money for charity. The tournament raised £3,931.58, with donations supporting The Brick and Crook Village Association.
The inaugural event was a popular success, and was expanded in 2025, welcoming 20 teams. The second tournament raised £6,654.05 for Centre 56 and Petrus.
Speaking about the tournament, M&Y’s Head of Business Support, Abbie Riley, said:
“It’s a way of getting all our staff and contractors together, out in the open air. It’s good for mental wellbeing, as well as raising money for a good cause.”
A collective effort means a successful tournament
The success of the tournament would not be possible without the continued support of our supply chain partners, customers and colleagues who take part each year. Their enthusiasm and generosity have helped transform a simple football tournament into a meaningful fundraising event that delivers lasting community benefit.
As the tournament continues to grow year after year, so too does its impact. More teams, more partnerships and more fundraising, means more support for organisations making a real difference to people’s lives.
With more than £20,000 raised so far, the tournament demonstrates what can be achieved when businesses, partners and communities come together behind a shared cause. We can’t wait for next year’s tournament!
