Continuing our collaboration with Weaver Vale Housing Trust bringing more affordable homes to Winsford

M&Y Staff joined by Weaver Vale Housing Trust in front of a brick building being demolished, the former site of a pub

M&Y Maintenance and Construction have been appointed as Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s new contractor to restart work on affordable homes on the site of the old Greedy Pig pub located just off New Road, Winsford.

Ten houses and 36 apartments were built on the site during the first phase of the development, but work had to be paused when the previous contracted developer went into administration.

Now, work is underway again thanks to the successful appointment of contractors M&Y, who will complete the development.

Work to complete a further 27 high-quality affordable rent apartments will begin shortly, with this phase delivering 15 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom flats on the site of the former pub.

The development is supported by £1.9 million in funding from Homes England with completion due in Autumn 2025.

Once finished, the scheme will bring 73 affordable rent homes to Winsford and revitalise this picturesque riverside location into a welcoming and accessible space for residents to enjoy.

Wayne Gales, Chief Executive at Weaver Vale Housing Trust, said:

It’s great news we have got this important development of much-needed affordable homes back on track. I am thrilled we have partnered with M&Y Maintenance and Construction again to continue our transformation of this riverside area off New Road in Winsford.

We believe that everyone deserves a safe and welcoming place to call home, and this development is a testament to our commitment to deliver much needed affordable rented homes.

Thanks must also go to Homes England for their ongoing support and commitment.

Alastair Mail, Head of Construction at M&Y Maintenance and Construction, said:

This is another example of the Affordable Homes Programme enabling more high-quality new homes to be built in areas where they are needed. We’re pleased we could work flexibly with Weaver Vale who have had to deal with really challenging issues to get these homes back on track.
